Flipped (p6) – Christian Questions?

  1. Who is your audience?
  • Matthew 6:1-6
  • Religious devotion happens in the secret place, not in the public place.
  • Giving, praying and fasting are all to be done for an audience of one.
  • The world says it’s all about how many views we get, but Jesus says it’s about what you do in the secret place
  1. What is your treasure?
  • Matthew 6:19-21
  • Two different types of treasure, the treasures on earth (corruptible) or treasures in heaven (incorruptible).
  • Job 1:21, even if things last on earth we can’t take it with us to heaven.
  • What are the treasures in heaven, where should we be investing our time? Developing Christ like character, introducing people to Christ, growing in knowledge of Christ, giving our money to things of eternal value.
  • The world says it’s all about enjoying what we have now, but Jesus says to invest in eternal treasures in heaven.
  1. Where are you looking?
  • Matthew 6:22-23
  • Almost everything we do depends on our ability to see and in scripture the eye is equivalent to the heart, our heart affects our ambition, drive and decision making.
  • Selfish ambition plunges you into darkness, but when you serve God it throws light on your path.
  • The world says gather materialism, popularity etc. but those cause our vision to be cloudy, but when we look to God he provides a light to our path.
  1. Who is your master?
  • Matthew 6:24
  • People always try to serve God on Sunday and then serve mammon or other idols during the week, but Jesus says no one can serve two masters and when we share God with others it becomes idolatry.
  • No one can serve two masters, there are other things in our life that we enjoy and make life interesting, but we need to have a master who is God and God alone.

These 4 questions are to challenge us and help us to learn and grow and are questions we need to keep asking ourselves.
