This week Sam Nair continued our series through Joshua
Shortchanged by Sin
There are 3 fundamental questions that come from Joshua 7
What is sin?
How does sin work?
How can I deal with it?
What is Sin?
Sin is breaking trust/faith.
We can sin against God and against man.
When we sin against man we are violating faith, violating faith and violating a relationship
Sin is missing the mark
No matter how much we have missed the mark by, we have missed the mark.
We have all fallen short of the glory of God, therefore Jesus came to Earth in human form and bridged the gap.
Sin is allowing unlawful authority/influence
God should be on the throne of our hearts, when he is not, we live by there expectations and there ways of living.
How does sin work?
We see it
We covet it
We take it
We hide it
We lie about it
There are 2 lies that a believed in Joshua 7
What happens in Jericho stays in Jericho.
This is the belief that sin can be hidden, however Numbers 32:23 tells us to find your sin or your sin will find you.
What happens in Jericho only affects me
This is the lie that the sin only affects me, sin is personal but the consequences are corporate.
The lie can cause broken homes/families/societies/lives
How can I deal with sin?
Catch it:
1 Peter 5:8 be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour
be conscious of what is going on in your mind, bring God back to the throne of your heart.
Bin it:
Say NO.
We can say No because we have put our faith in Jesus
Call upon Jesus 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sin, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Kill it:
Galatians 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh
It is only by walking in the spirit that we have the power to kill sin.
