Exodus – God With Us (Part 5)

God is with us – Exodus : 4 actions in the battle of life

In this sermon we look at the two names of God and four actions in the battle. The Israelites had just crossed the Red Sea, and were on their way to the promised land.

Exodus 15:1-6

  1. We need to worship

The Lord is a warrior(v3). He fights for you. Worship is a vital weapon in the battle of life. The Israelites sang a song of worship in Exodus chapter 15. Worship helps us keep our eyes on God, and to remember the truth.

Exodus 17:8-16

  1. We need to fight (v9)

The lord is my banner (v15), a rallying point to gather. In v9 men are found to fight, it is time to take part in the battle. Up to now God has done everything, all the Israelites were required to have is faith. Christian discipleship requires effort (Romans 8:13, Ephesians 4, Ephesians 6, 1 Timothy 6:12).

  1. We need each other (v11-13)

Aaron & Hur help hold up Moses hands to win the battle. In battle and trials, we need each other. Many feel like Moses, and don’t know how much longer we can go on. God calls some of us to be Aaron and Hur, others will be like Moses – but we need to admit you need help.

  1. We need the Lord (v14-16)

Write this down and build an alter to remember God is the one who is victorious, and God wins the battle (v14). Isaiah 11:1,. Root of Jesse, was Jesus’ lineage. Jesus is a banner for all people. The Amalekites were defeated when Moses lifted his hands. On the cross Jesus lifted his hands to win us the banner.

The challenge for us to live out these four actions in our life.
